autumn walker

fall weather! yes! not quite as much as spring... but i do love fall. warmer clothing. pumpkin flavored everything(especially IHOP's pumpkin pancakes!) leaves turning colors. snuggling on the couch. holidays approaching.

oh! and the new saxon shore album is exquisite!(... a play on the title of the album, if you will. erm, it's good.)

this post is mostly pointless.

you may be blessed by your own ghost

whoa! this was a pleasant surprise... i hadn't realized elliott was putting together a final release. i think i had kinda put elliott out of memory after their break up. also, i was always a bit disappointed with their live show after loosing their original bass player and guitar player. however it seemed like they were gaining some momentum at the end there. then the break up... anyway, the sample clip on revelation's website sounds gorgeous!

i'm hungry... time to stroll down to the ol' deli on 2 and kill some more time.

perseverance every day

here is an interview with Arlie Carstens, ex-Juno/current Ghost Wars front man.

the art that this man has made and the way he dares to think have been a huge influence on me.

also of note in this interview is the fact that Nate Mendel(possibly one of the best bass players in the world) is collaborating with him on his new project, Ghost Wars.

if i could change your mind and clean your cobweb eyes

still loving the 'times album.

other than that just trying to get through each day i guess. lot on my mind and not much i'm able to do about it, it seems.

here's to hoping things work out the way they are supposed to... whatever that might mean.

7.15.2005

i'd really like to play music again.

gushing, part 2

today is the day that the first issue of ALL-STAR BATMAN AND ROBIN, THE BOY WONDER comes out! written by frank miller and pencilled by jim lee. this is going to rule. even if the story sucks(which i'm hoping it won't... Year One and DKR were great) at least the the art will be gorgeous! lunch break can't come fast enough today... i'm making a beeline for my local comic shop.

gushing, part 1

yummy goodness. ex-shiner frontman, allen epley, does not disappoint. this is way better than the first life and times ep(which i am quite fond of.) this was recorded at matt talbot's(hum) studio in nowheresville, IL. (okay, so the town is called tolono and is just outside of champaign.) that and paul malinowski at the helm produced a gorgeous sounding record. the bass tone is delicious! this may be my favorite record of the year. some of mr. epley's finest work. i dig.

listen to a sample here.

seems like most everything used to be something else

weird. ironic even? i randomly pulled the heading of my last entry from a six parts seven song and just two days later and the hour of the show's start i find out that the six parts seven are playing in nashville. so i went. and i'm glad i did. they were great. i wasn't able to catch their set when TSG played with them a while back because we had to scoot off to another show. i wish megan could have gone with me... but she was pretty pooped after a day of shopping for(and finding!) her wedding dress. other than that my only complaint is that they did not play longer.

i also got a chance to catch a little bit of pink floyd's live 8 performance on VH1. wow! just WOW! i can only imagine what it would have been like to actually be there. roger waters looked like he was having the time of his life! david gilmour was business as usual until he cracked a bit of a smile at nick mason.

what you love you must love now

our vacation was pretty freakin' sweet. we got to hang out with my mom a ton and go to the city for thai food(read: really good thai food and not the so-so kind i get in nashville) with some friends and a bit of shopping at chicago comics, belmont army-navy surlpus and urban outfitters. i also saw batman begins(5th time) with my dad and megan and i hung out with the entire side of my mom's family on the 4th. on the way home we stopped at the superman museum in metropolis, il. good times. i was missing chicago... but again realized that i enjoy living in nashville and visiting chicago when i can.

also i'll just say that i've been kind of sick of music(scenes, shows, politics, etc) lately. fortunately all it takes is listening to the music you love to make you love music again.

a future lived in past tense

haven't posted in this here blogger for a long time. going to be doing so more frequently i hope.

i just spent the last 10 minutes or so reading past entries. my how life has changed! looking ahead i hope to make some even more awesome changes. but i can't complain at all about where i'm at right now. still it's kinda crazy to think that i'm getting married in 9 months!!

it's been about that long since i've played in a band. on the one hand i like to do so again... and on the other maybe it's time to put that sort of activity to rest. i think i would still enjoy playing music but i definitely want to approach it differently than in the past. enjoy being the key word there...

the next to weekends bring about travel. i like to travel and get away. friday megan and i leave for tifton, GA. hope to relax and get in megan's parent's pool. the following weekend i'll be going home(read:chicago/my parent's place) for the first time since christmas.

should be fun.
